FOOD & HEALTH
The whole staff at ROYAL AMEICAN school knows that we have a part to play in promoting a healthy lifestyle, including encouraging healthy eating options.

We believe that:
Diet is central to health and a child’s diet can influence both current and future health, as well as affecting learning potential. As children spend an average of one-quarter of their waking lives in school, schools need to promote healthy food and drink choices throughout the school day.

We aim to promote healthy & balanced eating by:
-
Encouraging foods which are rich in vitamins, iron, and calcium, in particular fruit, vegetables, meat, beans, bread, and low-fat dairy products.
-
Encouraging starchy foods as a source of energy (such as bread, pasta, rice, and potatoes) rather than fatty foods.
-
Encouraging fruit juices, lower-fat milk, and sugar-free drinks.
-
Discouraging sugary and carbonated drinks and less healthy snacks between meals.
Health Tips:
-
Don’t let children skip breakfast. Children who skip breakfast generally have below average nutrition.
-
Infants and young children should not be placed on low fat diets.
-
Encourage infants and children to choose water as their preferred drink.
